Oats were the last of the major cereal grains to be domesticated, this was because it originated as
weeds that grew within cultivated fields of various other crops in Europe, in fact Greeks and Romans considered oats to be nothing more than a diseased version of wheat. Oats were even a lowly horse food for the Romans.
